Right next to the Palais des Papes, the staircase to the restaurant is rather steep. But after only a few steps, you come out onto a beautiful terrace, far from the bustle of the town below. A warm welcome from the “Maître Cuisinier de France” is the first pleasure. He personally greets every guest. In summer, the terrace is a definite “must” and its unsurpassable views of the impressive Palais des Papes and its beautiful square are magnificent.
During my first visit to Christian Etienne 5 years ago, I was recommended the “Menu Confiance”. Since then, there has been no question of coming to France and not having a meal there. Etienne’s creations are pure pleasure to both the eyes and the palate. Whether it is foie gras or lobster, baby vegetables or pigeon, his dishes always have that little extra something that makes them so unique. On my last visit, I let them choose the wine as well as the menu and that is how I discovered Usseglio’s 2003 Châteauneuf-du-Pape. An absolute delight.
